Nuclear Industry
It's time to come clean about nuclear energy. The battle is against carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. To mitigate climate change, we need to choose energy sources that minimize our production of this "greenhouse gas." Even when including emissions from the entire life cycle, including mining uranium, nuclear energy produces nearly as little greenhouse gases as wind and hydro energy. Of these three, only nuclear and hydro can provide "base load" electricity.
Nuclear energy currently provides 15% of Canada's electricity. As the nuclear conversation continues across the country, this number could increase.
The EPR™ Reactor: Certainty and Safety for our Future
AREVA has designed the Evolutionary Power Reactor (EPR™). Ten international utilities have already chosen the EPR™; four are being constructed in Finland, France, and China, and others are being proposed in the United States, Great Britain, South Africa, and other countries.
Recycling Nuclear Warheads into Electricity
Fuel once meant for weapons will now become a source of light and warmth. In fact, by 2013 the equivalent of 20,000 nuclear warheads will be converted for peaceful uses. AREVA is participating in that mission, as part of the "Megatons to Megawatts" program.
