Operations
With over 40 million pounds of uranium concentrate produced since its inception, McClean Lake is AREVA Resources flagship operation. McClean Lake boasts the newest and most technologically advanced uranium mill in the world; it can process ore grades from less than 1% to 30% uranium.
Mining is currently completed at McClean Lake, however stockpiled ore continues to be processed from the SUE E and SUE B pits. Additionally, the mill has been expanded to process ore from other projects, such as Cigar Lake.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) approved the renewal of the operating license for a period of eight years, from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2017. The new license authorizes mining of the McClean Lake North Deposits that will be mined from the surface using an internally developed innovative mining technique, called the Mining Equipment Development (MED). The MED program uses high pressure water to cut ore loose and pump it to the surface.
